Heading to Harkers in October and would like to try for some of the sharks that hang around the bait balls. Do you need to chum them to the boat or are people having and luck getting them to take a fly without chumming? Are favorite flies/technique?

You are imitating death. Orange and red. Feathers, marabou, ostrich. Large gapped and strong hook.

Sometimes an all white fly works.

Chum and cast out..not real far. Do not move the fly....that will just scare the sharks away.

Later if the large sharks are eating the larger fish....things might change.
