A pattern on the river
A lot of things can happen once. But when I go out 2 evenings this week in my kayak, and find myself in breaking fish in the same location at the same time, I smell a pattern.
Tonight, light rain was falling when the sun came out under the low cloud edge - double rainbow from horizon to horizon and splashes all around my kayak. Didn't hook a fish every cast - but got damn near. 14 to 17 inch rock fish. They were chasing bunker about 3 inches long. with the rainbows and the birds it was a magical scene.
I just had a spinning rod and a bucktail along.
May venture back out tomorrow evening with a fly rod to see if they are still around.

Took the boat and a couple of fly rods out to same place same time.
birds were sitting in the area. nothing was breaking, but the electronics told the tale.
they were right on the drop , but a various depths.
threw a deep 7 on a 7 wt.
Fun was had.
One was 19 inches - and qualified for the skillet.

Nice work, Dave. Definitely something special about a fish caught after you personally figure out a plan and make it work. Probably even tasted a little bit better.
