Dedicated salt water fly rod/reel or not?
I am wondering about equipment for an April/May 2013 trip to the OBX. I have a 9' 8wt Sage rod and reel for freshwater bass/steelhead/salmon. I am worried about my reel turning into a rusted wreck with exposure to salt water. My other surf fishing gear from my days in Virginia Beach has a greenish patina but is otherwise in good condition, so I am not as concerned about my rod.
Will proper fresh water rinsing/ cleaning be enough to preserve my reel or should I purchase a dedicated saltwater reel?
Thanks!
